United Airlines hints at future merger

United Airlines Chairman and CEO, Glenn Tilton, stated the investment markets believe scope and scale hold importance in a global business following the merger of Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines in late 2008 and believes there would be another major airline merger within the next two years (Financial Times, 15-Feb-2010). United Airlines and Continental Airlines abandoned merger talks in Apr-2008.

United Airlines: "The market capitalisation of Delta is approximately twice the combined market capitalisation of United and Continental. The investor seems to have spoken. The market seems to have suggested that scope and scale in a global business are important," Glenn Tilton, Chairman & CEO. Source: Financial Times, 15-Feb-2010.
