United Airlines CEO: Newark Airport 'running like a charm' following FAA targeted scheduling limit

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby, speaking at the IATA AGM, stated (03-Jun-2024) New York Newark Liberty International Airport "is now functioning the best it ever has", following the US FAA reducing the targeted scheduling limit for the airport to 77 movements per hour. Mr Kirby noted previously the FAA was "letting it be scheduled at 88 movements per hour", resulting in frequent delays, cancellations and disruptions, as the schedule limit exceeded what the airport's runway infrastructure could handle. He commented: "We're finally scheduling it at the capacity of 77 movements per hour, and it's running like a charm", adding: "Being able to operate reliably is so much better for customers, for everyone". Mr Kirby concluded: "You shouldn't try to put 10 pounds in a five pound bag, and that's what we were doing at Newark".
