T'way Air may revise widebody aircraft strategy if oil prices drastically increase

T'way Air EVP Hyung Yi Kim, speaking at the CAPA LCCs in North Asia Summit, stated (11-Jun-2018) T'way Air aims to "achieve a fleet of 50 aircraft by 2025", adding that the LCC aims for 10 of the 50 aircraft to be widebodies. Mr Kim said T'way expects to generate funds for the development of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities for widebody aircraft from its IPO, scheduled to be completed in 2H2018. He said sustainability and stability are priorities for T'way Air so "we may have to change our approach" to widebody operations if oil prices drastically increase. Given slot scarcity at airports in the region Mr Kim said the LCC may consider operating widebody aircraft on short haul services.
