Libya’s Tripoli International Airport announced plans to replace the existing airport with two new terminals by Mar-2011 with capacity to handle 20 million passengers p/a (Libya Online, 29-May-2010). The project was awarded to a consortium of Turkey's TAV Construction, Odebrecht and Consolidated Contractors Co.

CAPA’s 2016 outlook was against a background of unusually high levels of profitability for airlines. In 2017 those profit levels may be eroded as oil prices creep back up, economies falter and political uncertainty abounds over matters such as ‘Brexit’ and the election of a new and unpredictable US president – along with the prospect of greater levels of protectionism and threats to open skies agreements. Perhaps nothing sums up this political uncertainty more than the ‘decision’ made – at length – by the British government that London Heathrow Airport will be expanded by the addition of a single runway, and which is not a decision at all. It must be rubber stamped by MPs by Dec-2017 and there is no ‘certainty’ about that. On a potentially more positive note however, Donald Trump’s election as US President could generate new, much need investment in US airport infrastructure.
Onur Air: Turkey's number two LCC goes into reverse after German expansion stalls
Turkey's fifth largest airline by seat capacity, LCC Onur Air, has thrown its operation into reverse. After growing scheduled seat numbers at an average rate of 11% pa for four years, including growth at around 20% for most of 2016, it will cut capacity by 20% this winter.
A series of geopolitical events has weighed heavily on demand for air travel in Turkey, particularly in international travel. Weak trading conditions have also prompted the market leaders – national airline Turkish Airlines and LCC Pegasus – to halt their own rapid growth. Onur Air is bigger in the domestic market than it is in the international market, but much of its 2016 expansion was driven by international growth, particularly to Germany.
Onur's network faces strong competition on almost every route, particularly on international routes, and this has clearly posed a severe challenge in the face of falling demand.
