Sriwijaya Air has been looking at turboprops for bast two years, decided to maximise 737-500s

Sriwijaya Air corporate planning and business development director Jefferson Jauwena, speaking at the CAPA Airline Fleet & Finance Summit 2016, said (04-Mar-2016) the carrier has "been looking at turboprops for the last two years, but then we decided to maximise our Boeing 737-500s." Mr Jauwena explained: "Most of our 737-500s will be transferred to Nam Air, and Nam Air will serve some remote areas where the -800s cannot serve and become a feeder for Sriwijaya." Mr Jauwena continued: "We will see how things develop, especially as the government improves infrastructure, it's going to be hard for us if we shift to turboprops… There will still be some markets for the turboprop but when you have a choice, the passenger has a choice, between turboprops and jets people will choose the jets."
