South African airlines need more investment

Airbus forecasts South African airlines will need to invest at least USD23.3 billion by 2028 on 172 new aircraft to satisfy growing demand for air travel (afrol news, 23-Feb-2010). Airbus Director for Market Analysis, Andrew Gordon, stated South Africa has experienced 27% growth in air traffic over the past 10 years, which has been driven "in part" by a 41% increase in international traffic. African airlines' share of the international market has reportedly decreased by 8% as international carriers have expanded into the market.
