SITA reported the mishandling rate fell to 6.3 bags per 1000 passengers in 2024 (from 6.9 in 2023), as total mishandled bags edged down to 33.4 million despite passenger volumes rising 8.2% to a record.1 Transfer mishandling remained the largest contributor at 41% (down from 46% in 2023), while delayed bags accounted for 74% of cases.1
