Salt Lake City Airport plans to construct a new USD740m North Concourse
Salt Lake City International Airport announced (02-May-2016) plans to build a USD740 million concourse north of the existing terminal to accommodate forecast growth in passenger traffic and to replace aging facilities. The North Concourse is in addition to the South Concourse, which is just beginning construction as part of the Salt Lake City Department of Airport's Terminal Redevelopment Programme. The addition of the North Concourse effectively increases the TRP from USD1.8 billion to USD2.6 billion. Salt Lake City Mayor Jacqueline Biskupski said the new Concourse will add 30 gates in two phases. The North Concourse will replace existing gates now on Concourses B, C and D, which have significant facility deficiencies that would require costly renovations if retained. The first phase of construction will commence on the west portion of the building and is scheduled to be completed in 2020, in conjunction with the opening of the South Concourse-West and the new terminal. A flexible gate layout is planned to serve a mix of aircraft sizes, though the concourse will primarily be used for narrowbody and small, wide-body aircraft. In the future, the North Concourse layout allows for an additional 15 gates to be added to the east for a total of 45 gates. Funding will be provided by general airport revenue bonds.
