Background ✨

Ryanair Group CEO Michael O'Leary previously said European airlines faced a major cost challenge in 2027 because industry fuel hedging rolled off, with jet fuel prices higher amid refinery tanker shortages and limited refinery capacity.1 He also cut Ryanair's FY2027 traffic forecast to 214 million, citing capacity limits to manage unhedged fuel exposure, while predicting higher oil prices would be passed through via higher airfares or fuel surcharges and could accelerate airline failures and consolidation.2
