Rolls-Royce previously opened its GBP110 million Advanced Blade Casting Facility in Rotherham, targeting capacity of more than 100,000 single-crystal turbine blades p/a by 2017, supported by GBP15 million of UK Government investment in automated techniques.1 Rolls-Royce later said the site halved turbine-blade manufacturing time as part of a wider industrial transformation that also involved closing older facilities.2
