Quito Airport forced to close due to protests

Ecuador's Quito Airport and a number of other airports in the country were closed 30-Sep-2010 due to protests by Ecuadorean police demanding higher salaries after congress approved (30-Sep-2010) changes to the country's public service law that would limit increases (Bloomberg, 01-Oct-2010). Approximately 150 protesters seized a runway at Ecuador's international airport, as dozens of police protested against a new law which would cease the payment of bonuses.
