Qatar Airways LCC subsidiary still an option, but not a willing one

Qatar Airways confirmed it would not willingly launch an LCC subsidiary, but could do so to counter the market share threat offered by the Middle East's fast expanding LCCs. CEO, Akbar Al Baker, stated in 2009 that the carrier could launch an LCC subsidiary within three months if pushed by competition.

Qatar Airways: "If pushed Qatar Airways will do it, and has the resources to do that. But it would not do it willingly. Yield competition in the Gulf is always strong. It is a similar situation to Europe with intense competition between incumbents. It is as intense as anywhere," Stephen Vella, Management Adviser. Source: Reuters, 26-Mar-2010.
