Perth Airport opens first phase of international arrivals area expansion

Australia's Perth Airport opened (29-Nov-2013) the first phase of its AUD80 million (USD73 million) international arrivals area expansion at terminal one. The extension doubles the size of the arrivals area and includes a new baggage reclaim system, SmartGate systems, a walk-through duty free store operated by JR/Duty Free and new customs and immigration offices. The airport also plans to install two more baggage reclaim belts and double the size of the quarantine area. The project is expected to be complete in late 2014 and forms part of the airport's AUD750 million (USD686 million) redevelopment. Perth Airport CEO Brad Geatches said, "We've completely changed how people arrive into Perth Airport off an international flight...Previously, our facilities were not providing the kind of welcome we wanted to give passengers when they arrived at Perth Airport. It was essential that we got the design of this area right to ensure an efficient and enjoyable customer experience." [more - original PR]
