Panama Tocumen Airport outlines expansion project
Panama City Tocumen International Airport announced (24-Jan-2017) its expansion project is estimated to exceed USD1.3 billion in investment. The expansion is underway to support the target of doubling passenger traffic by 2022. The expansion project includes the USD12 million extension of the 03L Runway, work which commenced in May-2016 and is being carried out by MECO SA. Terminal 2 expansion is also underway, being awarded to Odebrecht for USD13.9 million. Apron design and construction was awarded to the TRANSEQ/Estrella consortium for USD7.8 million, and includes 17,000sqm apron. The ROLASA consortium was awarded the USD4.6 million design and reconstruction of pavements, lighting, signalisation, drainage, and beaconing of Taxiway H and Runway Head 03I. The airport also awarded the construction of three fuels storage tanks to Cape Environmental Management for USD11.4 million, and awarded CELMEC the USD25.9 million electrical substation.
