Nigeria previously trialled cashless/contactless airport payments under FAAN’s Operation Go Cashless with Paystack at Lagos and Abuja airports.1 2 The policy triggered toll-point congestion after FAAN implemented cashless payment across all airport payment points on 01-Mar-2026, prompting President Bola Tinubu to order a temporary suspension and a redesign towards a “more seamless system”.3 Mr Keyamo later said hybrid payment would be short-lived, with concessionaires installing electronic gates to fully automate payments.4
