New Beijing Airport project commences, to open in 2017

China's new Beijing Airport project has reportedly commenced and the airport is expected to commence operations in 2017 with capacity for 130 million passengers p/a, 40 million more than Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, which is currently the busiest airport in the world in terms of passenger numbers (Wall Street Journal, 27-Nov-2012). The new Beijing Airport, located in Daxing, will have eight runways.
