The new terminal's construction formed part of a broader 78,000sqm expansion project, with phased capacity increases initially set at 3.7 million and ultimately designed to handle over seven million passengers annually. The project experienced several delays, with revised opening targets shifting from Nov-2024 to mid-2025, and was supported by multiple international funding agreements, including significant loans from the Saudi Fund for Development and other regional partners1 2 3 4.
