Madeira Airport inaugurates EUR11m expansion

ANA Airports of Portugal announced (01-Jun-2016) Madeira Airport inaugurated an EUR11 million expansion and systems modernisation project. The expansion added over 1800sqm of commercial area, generating 70 new jobs at the airport. The airport also reinforced the runway and created additional 1500sqm of operational space, as well as implementing a baggage system which will increase passenger processing capacity by 83%. The airport highlighted the expansion of a walk-through duty free store from 350sqm to 800sqm and a 200sqm Portfolio store. The airport also announced it will soon host Ale-Hop and Pandora outlets. The improved airport has the capacity to handle 1400 passengers per hour, compared to the previous 720 passengers per hour. [more - original PR - Portuguese] [more - original PR]
