Lufthansa opens reservations for premium economy

Lufthansa opened (19-May-2014) reservations for its premium economy service, which will feature on the carrier's Boeing 747-8 aircraft from Dec-2014, A340-600 aircraft from Jan-2015 and A380-800 aircraft from Apr-2015. In addition to a seat pitch of 38", premium economy passengers will receive a complimentary checked baggage allowance of two items up to 23kg each, and access to Lufthansa business class lounges for a EUR25 fee. Installation of the new premium economy will commence in autumn 2014 and be complete by summer 2015, with each aircraft to be configured with between 21 and 52 premium economy seats. Lufthansa German Airlines board member Jens Bischof said: "We have had an incredible response for our Premium Economy Class since its launch event, particularly from passengers who we are trying to reach with this new offer. The Premium Economy travel experience will now be even more within reach - up to 50 per cent more personal space at attractive prices and already honoured with an award as a product in the premium segment." Mr Bischof added: "The design and features of the seat are based on extensive passenger surveys and workshops with sales partners. More than 1.5 million passengers per year will be able to enjoy a new travel experience with the installation of 3600 seats in all 106 long-haul aircraft in just one year."
