Lufthansa maintains capacity for Winter 2009/10

Lufthansa announced (09-Oct-2009) it is reducing the number of weekly flights in its upcoming Winter schedule for 2009/10, commencing 25-Oct-2009. The carrier will operate a total of 12,406 weekly flights, a decrease of 7.4% year-on-year. Through gradual withdrawal of smaller regional aircraft and the deployment of larger types, capacity (ASKs) will remain stable, year-on-year. Overall, through "fleet re-dimensioning", capacity (ASKs) will increase marginally by 1.1%, principally through the use of new aircraft in inter-continental traffic. Lufthansa is offering connections to 191 destinations in 78 countries (compared with 194 destinations in 79 countries in Winter 2008/09):

  • German domestic/Europe: 11,282 weekly flights (2008/09: 12,278 weekly flights). The downsizing is mainly in the continental route network;
  • Long-haul services: 1,146 intercontinental flights (2008/09: 1,124). [more]
