Lufthansa spokesman Boris Ogursky stated the carrier expects fuel costs to increase to around EUR6.5 billion in 2011 as anticipated by CFO Stephan Gemkow earlier this month (Dow Jones, 21-Jan-2011). In Oct-2010, the carrier stated it expected fuel costs for 2011 to stand at EUR6 billion. Lufthansa plans to increase its fuel surcharge on 25-Jan-2011. For domestic and intra-European routes, the surcharge will increase by EUR2 per sector to EUR26 while long-haul fuel surcharges will increase by EUR10 to between EUR92 and EUR107.
