Lufthansa expects fuel cost of EUR6.5bn in 2011; to raise fuel surcharges

Lufthansa spokesman Boris Ogursky stated the carrier expects fuel costs to increase to around EUR6.5 billion in 2011 as anticipated by CFO Stephan Gemkow earlier this month (Dow Jones, 21-Jan-2011). In Oct-2010, the carrier stated it expected fuel costs for 2011 to stand at EUR6 billion. Lufthansa plans to increase its fuel surcharge on 25-Jan-2011. For domestic and intra-European routes, the surcharge will increase by EUR2 per sector to EUR26 while long-haul fuel surcharges will increase by EUR10 to between EUR92 and EUR107.
