London Luton Airport submits application for GBP200m mass transit system

London Luton Airport submitted (15-Feb-2017) an application to construct a GBP200 million mass passenger transit (MPT) system. Subject to planning permission, work may begin in late 2017 for the system to be operational by spring 2021. The scheme will be fully funded under Luton Borough Council's capital programme, as the Council owns the airport. London Luton Airport increased passengers by 44% since 2014 and expects the MPT to support growth to handle 18 million passengers p/a by 2021. As previously reported by CAPA, the 2.2km MPT link is planned to replace the existing shuttle bus and will transport passengers between Luton Airport Parkway station and the terminal.
