Kenya Airways workers union dismisses pay deal agreement

Kenya's Aviation and Allied Workers Union chairman Moses Ndiema dismissed claims it reached an agreement with Kenya Airways on contentious wage review talks and warned that they will call a strike should the negotiations break down (businessdailyafrica, 29-Dec-2010). Mr Ndiema stated the parties had only selected a team to lead the talks. The union is demanding an approximate USD4 million (KES325 million) in allowances arising from an agreement signed in Apr-2010 and was to be back-dated 15 months while the management wants it to be backdated to Oct-2010, a deal that could save the carrier approximately USD2.5 million (KES200 million).
