JAL to decide on dismissal criteria and notify staff next week

Japan Airlines Corp is expected to compile screening criteria for its planned dismissal of pilots and cabin attendants next week and notify those who meet the criteria (Kyodo News, 09-Dec-2010). More than 100 workers will likely be dismissed with the move coming as the airline's additional voluntary retirement programme is unlikely to meet its job reduction target. The deadline of the programme has been postponed until today (09-Dec-2010). It has been reported that some labour unions are slated to file lawsuits against the airline due to the plan. Meanwhile, the JAL Cabin Crew Union is planning to stage a strike on 24/25-Dec-2010.
