JAL start up LCC will benefit from safety reputation of parent

Japan Airlines (JAL) strategy development VP Hiroyuki Uehara, speaking at the CAPA LCCs in North Asia Summit, stated (12-Jun-2018) if customers expect traditional JAL service standards from JAL's start up low cost long haul airline "that's bad for us", but added that the LCC will benefit from JAL's safety reputation. Mr Uehara added that low cost long haul differs from short haul in that you need to think more about comfort and meal service for long haul operations. Responding to queries regarding the configuration of Boeing 787-8 aircraft allocated to the start up LCC, Mr Uehara noted it is common to have two classes for long haul services.
