Israel’s Competition Authority also signalled an intention to fine El Al ILS121.8 million over alleged unfairly high airfares, citing average economy and premium fare rises of 16% from 07-Oct-2023 to May-2024 and alleging monopoly operation on selected routes; El Al disputed the claim and planned to present its position at a hearing and in legal forums1. Israel’s Antitrust Authority previously declared El Al a monopoly in providing airline security services to Arkia and Israir, foreshadowing tighter controls on pricing to competitors2.
