Iberia seeking 'consensus with unions' on proposed low-cost airline

Iberia Chairman, Antonio Vazquez, stated the carrier wants "consensus with unions" on a new low-cost short-medium range airline before summer-2010 (Reuters/AFP, 02-Jun-2010). The plan to create a Madrid-based low-cost network to feed the carrier's growing long-haul business was announced in Oct-2009, as part of its 2012 strategic plan.

Iberia: "We want consensus with the unions, but it must be clear that our short-medium range model has to change, without a doubt. It's not just about cost-cutting," Antonio Vazquez, Chairman. Source: Reuters, 02-Jun-2010.

Iberia: "The national network of high-speed trains is increasing, airports favour ... low-cost airlines and the fact that price is a key factor for our clients when it comes time for them to choose an airline all force us to react firmly," Antonio Vazquez, Chairman. Source: AFP, 02-Jun-2010.
