Background ✨

Heathrow planned an eight week public consultation from 27-Oct-2026, with more than 20 public events and six online sessions, ahead of a planning application, and said it would publish further detail on meeting tests on carbon, noise and air quality.1 It also said it targeted securing planning permission by 2029, with the runway opening within a decade.1 Heathrow partnered with Make UK, TUC and senior former government figures to launch the Heathrow Infrastructure Skills Council, and pledged a skills plan delivering 5000 apprenticeships and training opportunities linked to the third runway.2 Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye said expansion offered an opportunity to "futureproof" UK infrastructure and build a skilled workforce.2
