GKN Aerospace previously expanded its Trollhättan facility by 5000 sqm to increase production capacity and incorporate digitised fabrication processes, aiming to meet high demand for aero-engines, including the GTF programme, amid a backlog of up to nine years1. It also introduced additive manufacturing methods that significantly reduce material waste in engine components, such as reducing material usage from 400kg to 85kg for a 37kg fan case mount ring2.
