Geasar SpA outlines EUR100m development plan for Olbia Airport out to 2022

Geasar SpA provided (Jul-2019) details of its development plan for Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport for 2019 to 2022, representing investment of more than EUR100 million. Details include:

  • Runway works: Extension of the main runway 05/23 from 2445m to 2740m and adaptation of the runway end safety area to improve safety;
  • Taxiways refurbishment: Complete redevelopment of the main taxiway and of the 10 connecting roads;
  • Expansion of aircraft parking areas: Construction of a apron for commercial and general aviation of an adequate size for traffic growth forecasts, including that of larger aircraft;
  • Requalification and structural interventions on apron areas aimed at upgrading surface layers and optimising apron capacity;
  • Terminal expansion: Extension of the current terminal facility, as well as revision of access roads and related parking areas;
  • Adaptation of operating spaces: Interventions will involve multiple functional areas both of the main terminal and of the adjacent structures, such as an outdoor kiosk, car rental terminal and T2. The main objective is to increase the processing capacity at check in and to create suitable areas to allow the passengers to perform security checks and therefore to directly access the boarding halls, increasing the available space and improving passenger services.
