flydubai urges open skies policy for the Middle East

flydubai CEO, Gaith Al Gaith, called for the implementation of an open skies policy in the Middle East, based on the open skies model of the European Union (Gulf News, 18-Aug-09). Mr Al Ghaith added there is "room" for more LCCs in the Middle East region (Khaleej Times, 19-Aug-09).

flydubai: "I can go to European Union countries and once inside can travel freely between the states. Here passengers from different countries need different visas and it makes the process difficult. Sorting this out will not only help flydubai but also other airlines...Low-cost in this part of the world represents at best 5% of the traffic. Low-cost in America represents 20% of the traffic. Looking at that statistic suggests there's room for more airlines," Gaith Al Gaith, CEO. Source: Gulf News/Khaleej Times, 18-Aug-09.
