Finnair seeking joint venture partner to increase Nordic presence

Finnair announced (09-Feb-2012) it is in discussions with potential cooperation partners as it seeks to form a joint venture aimed at increasing the airline's presence in the Nordic region. The discussions are in line with Finnair's Nordic Champion strategy under which the airline is seeking to establish new Nordic bases. The airline is currently undergoing restructuring in order to become more competitive and to restore profitability. Finnair CEO Mika Vehviläinen stated, "the potential joint venture would expand our home base to cover the entire Nordic region" and would "support our Asian strategy through increased feeder traffic for our Asian destinations and better presence in key cities throughout the Nordic region".
