EUROCONTROL reports 59% reduction in Europe-Middle East flights due to crisis

EUROCONTROL published (31-Mar-2026) the 11th edition of 'Aviation Trends' paper focusing on the impact of the Middle East crisis on European aviation since 28-Feb-2026. Highlights include:

  • 59% fewer flights between the Middle East and Europe;
  • 1150 impacted flights per day;
  • 206,000 additional kilometres flown per day;
  • 602 tons of additional fuel burned per day;
  • 1900 excess tons of CO2 emissions per day.

EUROCONTROL director general Raúl Medina stated: "The European aviation network remains resilient despite these impacts, with global network traffic up 2% compared to 2025 right now, and flows up to all other regions by between 4% and 23%". [more - original PR]
