ELFAA states competition should be prioritised over regulation

European Low Fares Airline Association (ELFAA) welcomed (10-Sep-09) the European Commission's planned economic analysis of developments in the market for airport services at regional and/or secondary airports, stating the analysis is critical ahead of the Commission's planned review of the guidelines due for 2010. ELFAA stated LCCs are "currently being jeopardised by many unjustified state aid litigation cases". [more] Dutch, Polish and Spanish governments also supported the case for governments and regional airports to develop partnerships with LCCs, stating the carriers have created jobs and connected remote regions in Europe (EUObserver, 10-Sep-09).
