The European Commission adopted a regulation introducing a Flight Emissions Label, requiring a harmonised methodology for estimating flight emissions, with EASA overseeing the estimations and airlines able to voluntarily participate from 01-Feb-2025. The first labels are to be assigned by 01-Jul-2025 for the winter 2025/26 schedule, considering aircraft type, passenger numbers, freight and fuel used1. EASA and IATA also signed a MoU to align emissions calculation processes2.
