LFV: The ash cloud. Continued restrictions in Swedish and European airspace

Direct News Source

18-Apr-2010 The airspace north of the 62° latitude - north of Söderhamn is open, as are blocks of Norwegian airspace.

Restrictions still apply to the rest of Swedish airspace. The rest of European airspace remains closed with a few exceptions. The forecasts are still uncertain and we shall update our information twice daily to inform you of further developments.

The overall picture regarding the ash cloud is still very uncertain. Volcanic eruptions on Iceland are ongoing. A further complication is that the volcano is located under a glacier and the ashes may be more aggressive than normal.

LFV is continuously working to ensure aviation safety based on assessments carried out together with Eurocontrol CFMU (Central Flow Management Unit), the London Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre, other north European Air Traffic Control organisations, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, the Swedish Government as well as other involved parties. Continuous updates will be available on www.lfv.se
