17-Nov-2009 Commencement of full operations at the new Larnaka International Airport.

Hermes Airports would like to inform the public that from midnight, 16 November 2009, the old Larnaka airport has ceased operations. As of today, 17 November 2009, the old Larnaka airport has relinquished its role to the new Larnaka International Airport.

The last arrival at the old airport was a Syrian Airlines flight from Damascus which landed at 22:25. The final departure left at 23.35 and was again carried out by Syrian Airlines, its destination being the Syrian capital. We would like to honour the thousands of people who have worked tirelessly over the past 35 years at the old Larnaka airport and who have managed, in the aftermath of the Turkish invasion and under difficult circumstances, to keep our country in touch with the rest of the world.

Cyprus enters the 21st century with two ultra modern airports at its disposal. We promise that we will do everything in our power to achieve our mission and that all together, Hermes Airports and the various airport agencies of the Republic of Cyprus, will meet any future challenges or difficulties that may arise from this huge undertaking.
