Brisbane is the latest city to reap the benefits of the Tiger Airways "Low Fare Revolution" with today's announcement that the airline will fly between Melbourne (Tullamarine) and Brisbane in early 2010.

Fares on the new Melbourne - Brisbane route go on sale today starting from just $88* one way, with up to three flights daily, commencing 28 March 2010.

Tiger Airways Australia Managing Director, Shelley Roberts, says that "2010 is set to be another big year for Tiger Airways as our 'Low Fare Revolution' will now be roaring into Brisbane. In the "Year of the Tiger" we'll virtually have Australia covered as we continue to grow, flying into the five largest cities with 18 routes spanning every State and Territory in the country.

"More than 15 million Australians will have local access to fly with Australia's true low fare airline in 2010."

With up to three daily flights between Melbourne (Tullamarine) and Brisbane commencing 28 March 2010, Tiger Airways will provide a significant boost to the tourism industry in Queensland and Victoria, providing an additional 350,000 annual visitor seats between the two popular destinations and offering travellers price competition and low fares on one of the country's most important air routes.

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) CEO and Managing Director, Julieanne Alroe, congratulated Tiger Airways on its announcement, saying the new services are a win for passengers.

"A new low cost airline like Tiger Airways brings greater competition, which ultimately means lower airfares and more choices for passengers," Ms Alroe said.

"The placement of Brisbane as a new destination in Tiger's already expansive network also indicates Tiger's confidence in the region as a major hub for tourism and business, at a time when our domestic tourism economy particularly needs a boost.

"Furthermore, Tiger will arrive in Brisbane just in time to take advantage of Brisbane Airport's new and improved road network, offering greater capacity and better connections to the Sunshine and Gold Coasts, cementing Brisbane Airport position as Queensland's gateway airport."
