01-Oct-2009 Further five expected by the end of the year.

Three new A320s coming from the Airbus premises in Toulouse have now joined the Alitalia fleet. Named "Torquato Tasso", "Niccolò Machiavelli" and "Giovanni Pascoli", the three new aircraft will be mainly used on the Milan-Rome-Milan route.

The number of new A320 Airbus in the fleet now rises to 35. The three A320s operational from today replace three MD80s (leaving the fleet) and join the six which arrived in March and the 26 already in the fleet, having joined the fleet in the past two years. A further five A320s will be delivered by the end of the year, making the Alitalia fleet one of the most modern in Europe.

The fleet renewal plan will see the arrival of a further 55 A320 Airbus for short and medium haul and 12 A330 Airbus for long haul by 2013. The new Airbus A320s, featuring the green "Environmentally Friendly" company logo, meet the most advanced international standards; they are equipped with the latest technology and the most efficient engines, with reduced noise and improved fuel consumption.

The new Alitalia Airbus fleet is top of the range also in terms of comfort and design. All the "slim" leather seats are equipped with individual LCD screens offering personalized on-board entertainment; they have also been ergonomically designed to maximise comfort and increase the space between passengers.

Always aiming at improving its service, Alitalia is also replacing all the seats on the existing 48 Airbus aircraft already in the fleet with new ones, matching the new Airbus A320 seats. Already by spring 2010, 80% of the short and medium haul aircraft will be equipped with the latest and most comfortable
seats.
