Court dismisses appeal to prevent closure of Edmonton City Centre Airport

Canada's Appeal Court dismissed a court appeal from Airco aimed at preventing the closure of Edmonton City Centre Airport (CBC, 02-Dec-2010). Airco claimed the closure of one of the airport's two runways was a breach of the Edmonton Regional Airport Authority's responsibility as the leaseholder. Edmonton City Council previously decided, in Jul-2009, to close the airport in phases, with the closure of one of the airport's two runways in Aug-2010. The city plans to redevelop the land for residential and commercial use.
