Continental Airlines Sep-2009 pax up 6.3%, RASM down 20%

Continental Airlines passenger numbers up 6.3% - consolidated traffic highlights in Sep-2009:

  • Passenger numbers: 4.7 million, +6.3% year-on-year;
    • Mainline: 3.3 million, +5.3%;
  • Passenger traffic (RPMs): +7.0%;
  • Passenger load factor: 81.5%, +5.0 ppts;
    • Mainline: 82.2%, +4.8 ppts;
    • Domestic: 84.0%, +5.5 ppts;
    • International: 80.4%, +4.1 ppts;
  • Cargo traffic (FTKs): +7.9%;
  • Revenue per ASM*: -19.5%;
    • Mainline*: -21.0%;
  • Aug-2009 RASM: -17.2%;

Continental Airlines: "For September 2009, consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile (RASM) is estimated to have decreased between 18.5 and 19.5% compared to September 2008, while mainline RASM is estimated to have decreased between 20.0 and 21.0 percent. September 2008 results included a 3 ppts increase in both consolidated and mainline RASM related to a reduction in the company's frequent flyer liability. For August 2009, consolidated passenger RASM decreased 17.2% compared to August 2008, while mainline passenger RASM decreased 17.9% compared to August 2008," Company statement.
