Continental Airlines passenger numbers down 3.4% - consolidated traffic highlights in Apr-2010:

  • Passenger numbers: 5.2 million, -3.4% year-on-year;
  • Passenger traffic (RPMs): -2.6%;
  • Passenger load factor: 82.9%, +0.6 ppt;
    • Domestic: 86.0%, -0.4 ppt;
    • International: 80.9%, +0.8 ppt;
  • Revenue per ASM*: +14% to +15%;
    • Mainline: +12% to +13%;
  • Mar-2010:
    • Revenue per ASM: +15.0%;

The carrier estimates a reduction of 275 million available seat miles and a reduction of USD24 million in passenger revenues in Apr-2010 due to the suspension of flights as a result of the volcanic ash crisis in Europe. The net effect of the reduction in capacity and passenger revenue resulted in a 1 ppt year-over-year increase in RASM.
