Companies need to improve relationships with employees and unions: Lufthansa VP

Lufthansa VP business development Daniel Roeska, speaking at the CAPA Airlines In Transition Summit, said (10-Mar-2016) airline unions don't necessarily have the same interests as their members and union control of communication with employees represents an issue for some companies. Mr Roeska suggested senior management needs to improve their personal understanding of employees' requirements and develop good relationships with unions, including portraying unions as "heroes" by allowing them to take credit for achievements. Mr Roeska said many legacy carriers delegated communication with employees to unions, resulting in employees feeling more attached to their union than the company and hindering "honest discussion."
