Comair profits rise in 1H2017 despite slowing economy; continues fleet renewal

Comair (South Africa) announced (14-Feb-2017) 1H2017 profits rose to USD15.2 million despite a slowing South African economy. Comair CEO Erik Venter said, "We're in an inflationary environment, but cost inflation was offset by a stronger rand and improved operating efficiencies." Comair is continuing its fleet renewal programme by replacing its Boeing 737-400 fleet with 737-800 and 737 MAX 8 aircraft. During the remainder of FY2017 it will make pre-delivery payments of USD9.7 million towards its 737 MAX 8 order, the first of which will arrive in 2019. [more - original PR]
