Latrobe City Council previously collaborated with Swinburne University’s Aerostructures Innovation Research Hub, Textron Systems Australia and certification bodies including the Civil Aviation Safety Authority on Regional Advanced Air Mobility Surrogate Trials from Feb-2024, comprising night simulated flights from Latrobe Regional Airport to assess drone applications in regional communities1. The council also launched the AIR Hub’s newest location at the Latrobe Aerospace Technology Precinct, describing it as a major aerospace research collaboration supporting Victoria’s ambition to lead in aerospace technology2. Victoria’s Government opened Dovetail Electric Aviation’s development centre at the precinct on 12-Apr-2024 and provided non-dilutive support via Invest Victoria, with the site focused on battery and hydrogen retrofits and expected job creation3 4. Nationally, CASA expanded its Automated Airspace Authorisations Trial across multiple controlled airports, with more than 1400 automated drone flight authorisations issued since May-20215.
