Chinese authorities critical of French decision to reduce Chinese traffic rights

China's Embassy to France criticised (14-Jul-2020) the French Civil Aviation Authority's (DGAC) decision to invoke reciprocity limiting total traffic rights permissible for Chinese airlines between China and France as "incomprehensible". The DGAC reduced Chinese traffic rights between China and France from three times weekly to weekly from mid Jul-2020 in response to China's 'five-one' policy, which allows one airline one weekly frequency between one destination in a second country and one destination in China. The Chinese Embassy stated that French authorities "unilaterally insisted that Air France alone should be able to operate three flights weekly, all three to Shanghai". It added that exceptions had already been made to allow Air France to operate a second weekly frequency from Paris to Shanghai, in addition to concessions made to assist Air France to operate frequencies to cities other than Shanghai, and that permission for a third was already being sought from the Chinese Government.
