China Airlines establishes team to study LCC JV with TransAsia Airways

China Airlines chairman Sun Huang-hsiang stated the carrier has established a team tasked with assessing establishing a LCC JV in cooperation with TransAsia Airways. According to a China Times report, Mr Sun stated now is the time for China Airlines to take action, adding the carrier is able to meet the different passenger demand. TransAsia Airways chairman Vincent Lin, who last year called for the establishment of a Taiwan-based LCC either by the government or as a JV among Taiwan's airlines, welcomed Mr Sun's remarks, and urged the government to revise the relevant regulations as soon as possible to allow for the establishment of a local LCC. Meanwhile, TransAsia's preliminary plans for an LCC subsidiary is reportedly expected to purchase six new A320 or A321 aircraft initially, operating to Asia as well as Hawaii.
