CFM International: LEAP engine continues to deliver on schedule

CFM International reported (15-Jun-2015) the pace of the LEAP engine development is accelerating, with the engines successfully completing major development milestones as the it moves toward entry into service in 2016. The engine programme is proceeding on schedule, with 28 engines tested to date, accumulating more than 4200 test hours and 6400 cycles.

  • Flight testing of the LEAP-1B engine for the Boeing 737 MAX started in Apr-2015, on a modified 747 flying testbed. The LEAP-1B was the third flight test programme CFM had launched in seven months. Overall, more than 50 flights and 425+ hours of flight testing have been conducted;
  • Flight testing of the LEAP-1B engine LEAP-1A engine for the A320neo started in May-2015. The engines are successfully continuing the flight test missions, which represent the next major milestones in a program that will culminate in entry into service on the A320neo in 2016 and the 737 MAX in 2017;
