BVwG denies third runway at Vienna International Airport

Austria's Federal Administrative Court (Bundesverwaltungsgerichts - BVwG) ruled (09-Feb-2017) against Flughafen Wien AG's plans for a third runway at Vienna International Airport. BVwG stated the application for the new runway, filed 10 years ago, is not permissible due to the associated, "High CO2 burden". A third runway at the airport would "significantly increase" greenhouse gas emissions in the whole of Austria, according to BVwG, which is "not justified" against positive aspects of the project.
