BVwG denies third runway at Vienna International Airport
Austria's Federal Administrative Court (Bundesverwaltungsgerichts - BVwG) ruled (09-Feb-2017) against Flughafen Wien AG's plans for a third runway at Vienna International Airport. BVwG stated the application for the new runway, filed 10 years ago, is not permissible due to the associated, "High CO2 burden". A third runway at the airport would "significantly increase" greenhouse gas emissions in the whole of Austria, according to BVwG, which is "not justified" against positive aspects of the project. Flughafen Wien AG stated it is now planning to file an extraordinary appeal against the decision, while continuing to, "Vigorously pursue" a third runway.
