British Airways previously committed GBP21 million to provide 200 fully funded Speedbird Pilot Academy places for 2025, after launching the programme in 2024.1 The carrier earlier opened applications to fund the GBP100,000 flight training cost for 60 prospective pilots p/a, also covering accommodation and food during the 16-month course.2 British Airline Pilots’ Association welcomed the fully funded cadet scheme, with head of careers and membership services Wendy Pursey highlighting its potential to broaden the talent pool beyond those with personal financial means.3
